Student Essay Prize, 2005
To celebrate the first anniversary of the www.revolts.co.uk website, we are pleased to launch a student essay competition. Two separate prizes - each of £100 - are available, one for those in pre-university education, the other for undergraduate university students.

What to do?

To enter either competition, write an essay on parliamentary voting, taking as your theme ONE of the following three quotations:

1. Unanimity is almost always an indication of servitude - Charles, Comte de Remusat

2. Honest differences of views and honest debate are not disunity. They are the vital process of policy making among free men - Herbert Hoover

3. Damn your principles! Stick to your party! - Benjamin Disraeli.

Essays should be up to 1000 words long for those in pre-university education, 1500 words long for undergraduates. Postgraduate students and other graduates are excluded.

How to do it?

Entries should be sent to Philip Cowley, School of Politics, University of Nottingham, Nottingham, NG72RD. Emailed or faxed entries will not be accepted.
